COLOMBIAN CARNIVAL 2008
Official Colombian Independence Day
Colombia beautiful country in South America where the children grown around the musical living and the love of been part of a family. Colombia knowing for its diverse music tradition and culture from the south to the north and from the west to the east music is playing in different ways; typical instruments are using to represent specific traditions from the different regions.
The Colombian calendar is full of festivals, carnivals and parties. About every day there is a festival taking place somewhere in Colombia.
Since its inception, Cachicamo Colombian Group has been celebrating Colombian Independence Day, which is a Colombian holiday on July 20th. Every year, this special day is celebrated with A big party in which all people and friends get together, honour the Colombian anthem, eat, and party with typical Colombian food, drinks and music.

Friday 18 ‘Fiesta Blancos & Negros’ at the Valley Hotel, 2nd floor 388 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley from 8:00pm to 5:00am Come, get wild and unleash all the joy. During this celebration people have fun painting each other's faces with cosmetics colors and throwing talcum powder and party foam. There will be live music and dancing for your physical pleasure.
It is with pride, that this Festival will be headed by the multi-talented DJ Chamo , one of the most revered Djs of the Bogota’s night club scene. DJ Chamo has a string of achievements to his name and an ever expanding global audience. Now signed to premiere ‘Tropipop’ label Respect, now he’s the man who people turn to in order to keep up to date with developments in Latin-Australia.

The festival is a celebration of vallenato music. Vallenato has its own rhythm and sound (characterised by the accordion and a percussion instrument called a guacharaca) and has its roots in the department of Cesar (of which Valledupar is the capital) and the neighbouring department of La Guajira. The music has developed over the last 50 years and has become especially popular with the laid-back people of the Caribbean coast, as wellas the whole of Colombia.

Born out of a love for creating beautiful music, inspired by the melding of the musical traditions of old and new worlds Zarabanda is an ensemble like no other. Featuring virtuoso performers Colombian born Latin harpist Sandra Real and Australian classical guitarist Anthony Garcia the trajectory of this new duo is to meld the worlds of Latin American folk music with its classical origins creating a fresh and evocative sound full of the colour and vibrancy of the Latin cultures with the elegance and style synonymous with classical music.
Sandra Real is a highly distinguished performer on the Latin harp both in her native country of Colombia. Since living in Australia Sandra has been touring giving recitals and workshops in metropolitan and regional centres. Her virtuosic grace enables her to captivate audiences with the enchanting sounds of this very special instrument.
Soulful guitarist composer Anthony Garcia continues to touch audiences with his unique ability to blend formality with colourful improvisatory flair. A highly trained classical musician well versed in styles such as jazz, Latin folk and popular music Anthony manages to bring together the threads of these genres to create an original and communicative soundscape of universal appeal.

Following the huge success of last year the official Colombian independence day Festival returns but much bigger and better. The 2007 Colombian Carnival of Barranquilla experienced arguably one of the most successful events in its history in Queensland with more than 1500 guests. This year there will be a wide range of acts entertaining the crowd with a portrayal of the most popular carnivals in Colombia from ‘Festival del Bambuco’ to ‘Silleteros’, from ‘Blancos y Negros to feria de Cali’
