Colombian food feast, live Latin dance and music to commemorate 200 years of

“New Granada’s” construction of national identity

In the 19th century, 400 years after Christopher Colombus discovered the New World (the continent of America), Colombia was governed by Spain.  On July 20, 1810, Colombian patriots stirred the population of Bogotá into street protests against Spanish rule.  In 1819, the Colombian people fought the last battle at Boyaca's bridge and the patriot army won it. Their commander was Simon Bolivar who liberated five countries in South America.
